3 Books Everyone Should Read to Make 2018 the Best Year Ever

“A book is a gift you can open again and again” — Garrison Kiellor

It is no secret that my life has been heavily influenced by the books I have read. I read The Beach by Alex Garland and bought a plane ticket to Thailand. I read Into Thin Air by John Krakauer and immediately got into rock climbing. Below are are list of three books that I am sure you will find just as inspiring as I did. Three Books that will get you psyched on bettering yourself in the new year.

Living With a Seal by Jesse Itzler

This book is about tackling life's plateaus and getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. After meeting a Navy Seal at an endurance race, the author invites the Seal to live with him and train him for 31 days. This book is hilarious and inspiring and will ultimately show you the benefits of stepping out of your comfort zone. Did I mention that this book is hilarious?

Natural Born Heroes by Christopher McDougal

Natural born heroes is like two books in one.  The first book tells a story of resistance fighters who capture a German general during WWII on the Island of Crete and then disappear. He retraces their steps across the island discovering ancient techniques for endurance while suggesting links between greek heroes and modern cretans. The second book will inspire you to swim, skip, run, climb, and throw as he studies endurance diets and fitness training  past and present such as parkour, movnat and martial arts. The two books come together in a natural way. If you are curious about fitness or need a little inspiration, this book is great to pick up.

What Doesn't Kill Us - Scott Carney

What doesn't kill us explores the connection between the mind and the body and reveals the science that allows us to push past our perceived limitations. Scott Carney is an investigative journalist who takes on the challenge to find out how ordinary people simulate the environmental conditions of our forebears to cure autoimmune disease, lose weight and reverse diabetes. Scott tells the story of his own transformational journey as he pushes his body and mind to new limits. It all culminates in a 28-hour climb of Africa's highest mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro, wearing nothing but a pair of running shorts and sneakers.

A word of caution with this one: you will be taking cold showers and icy plunges in the creek quicker than you think.
